HEALTHCOMM team member presents project-related results at the 11th European Communication Conference in Brno

A member of the MediaLab’s HEALTHCOMM project, Dr. Anna Sendra Toset, recently presented a study entitled “Combating health misinformation and disinformation on social media: A narrative review of recent research” at the foremost European Communication Conference, ECREA 2026. The presentation, based on research conducted in collaboration with Dr. Sinikka Torkkola, took place in Brno (Czech Republic) between September 8-11, 2026.

By examining and identifying recent research providing empirical evidence on interventions developed to combat health mis- and disinformation on social media, the research contributes to the HEALTHCOMM project's wider effort to understand how misleading health information is produced, disseminated, and interpreted, and how media literacy can support more informed engagement with health information.

The conference presentation provided an opportunity to exchange perspectives with researchers working on health communication and misinformation across different national and disciplinary contexts. It also strengthened the international visibility and dissemination efforts of the HEALTHCOMM project results while creating an avenue for academic discussion and future collaboration around the challenges posed by misinformation in contemporary health communication.

The study is currently under review at the European Journal of Health Communication.
