Vasyl (Vassily) V. Kucherenko, Ph.D., a Lecturer in Professional Communication at RMIT University Vietnam, has been working in the field of media and communication for about 30 years. Having started in 1990s as a professional journalist and political columnist, he worked later as a media consultant and public relations practitioner (including electioneering and political PR), local government official, and communication applied researcher before transitioning into academia in 2009.
Since then he has worked as a researcher at European University Institute and Robert Schuman Center for Advanced Studies, Italy, taught at Shanghai International Studies University and Honors College, China, as well as University of Social Sciences & Humanities, Vietnam National University – HCM.
His research interests lie in areas of media effects, misinformation/ disinformation/ manipulated information use and perception, digital and critical media literacy, political communication, and political behavior.
He is an author, in particular, of the following chapters on the manipulated information topic “Online Foreign News: Are We Capable to Recognize Manipulation”; “Guarded or guardless? The role of political knowledge in spotting manipulation in news about international affairs and resisting its persuasive effects”.
