Olena Churanova is a rounded communications professional with a career path traversing both academic and practical journalism realms. She bagged a PhD in communication and media studies from the Nacional'nij Universitet 'Kievo-Mogiljans'ka Akademija'Nacional'nij Universitet 'Kievo-Mogiljans'ka Akademija’. She also possesses a master of journalism degree, and bachelors degree in broadcast journalism from reputable accredited institutions in Ukraine. She is currently a senior lecturer at the National University of Kyiv-Mohyla Academy (Ukraine) where she teaches journalism and media studies and toher related subjects. She also doubles as a fact-checker with StopFake.org where she supports efforts to stop the menace of fake news in our contemporary society. Her research interests include social media, political communication in social media, social media as a new way of civic engagement. She has authored and co-authored a wide range of articles in reputable academic journals in the areas of her research interest. One of her recent works focuses on the usage of social media by Ukrainian politicians, images and stereotypes that have been building on social media platforms.
