Ojonimi is currently a predoctoral scholar and an assistant professor at the University of Carlos III Madrid (UC3M). Prior to joining the university, he worked within the development space (public health and climate change) in Nigeria. He holds a Bachelor's degree (BSc) and a Master's degree (MA - Cum Laude) in Communications from Kogi State University and the University of Nigeria, respectively.
He has served as a team member on public health projects in Nigeria funded by various international donors, including Gavi, The Vaccine Alliance, and The Gates Foundation. His academic focus is on health communication, specifically the media portrayal of health information, misinformation, fake news, and conspiracy theories, and their pervasive impact on public health narratives. His current research compares health disinformation in the media in a developed country (Spain) and a developing country (Nigeria).
Over the past year, he has consistently served as an external expert on the jury of the EU2P master’s programme in pharmacovigilance. He is also a team member of the UC3M research group Analytics, Media and Public Engagement: Communication, Journalism and Technology Laboratory (MediaLab), where he supports a national project funded by the Spanish Ministry of Science and Innovation: Health Comm.
Additionally, he is a member of the African Council for Communication Education (ACCE).
