Laura Gutiérrez holds a degree in Journalism and a PhD from the Economics and Institutions programme at the Complutense University of Madrid. In the academic field, she has been a professor of Journalistic Writing at the Complutense University and in the Master's programme for Economics Teaching at UNIR.
Currently, she is a professor of Scientific Journalism and Data Journalism at Carlos III University of Madrid and a researcher in the Medialab group at UC3M (Analytics, Media and Public Engagement: Communication, Journalism and Technology Laboratory). She is also a member of the research team of the COMSALUD project (AEI-Knowledge Generation Projects).
In the professional field, she has been Head of Communications at the Public Research Organisation Instituto de Salud Carlos III, and has worked as a journalist for nearly 25 years at Unidad Editorial, where she published around 5,000 journalistic articles in specialised health publications such as Diario Médico and Correo Farmacéutico, and in national newspapers such as Expansión and El Mundo.
She is currently the Director of Communications at the General Council of Official Colleges of Pharmacists of Spain, a position she combines with her teaching and research work at Carlos III University.
Additionally, she is a member of the National Association of Health Informers (ANIS), the Madrid Press Association (AMP-FAPE), the Spanish Association of Scientific Communication (AECC), and the Association of Communication Directors (DIRCOM).
