Laura Alonso-Muñoz

Laura Alonso-Muñoz is a professor of Journalism at the Universitat Jaume I in Castelló (Spain). Her work is in the field of political communication and journalism on social networks. Specifically, her studies have focused on the analysis of the impact of the Internet on democracy and political activism, the use of Twitter by political actors, citizens and the media, and the study of the populist phenomenon in the digital environment. Her training allows her to have knowledge of both journalism and the political sphere. For this reason, she obtained her doctorate with a thesis that comparatively analysed the communication strategy on Twitter of four European populist parties and their leaders, obtaining the grade of Outstanding Cum Laude. She has been the editorial coordinator of the journal Profesional de la Información since December 2019 and is a reviewer for international journals such as Journalism Practice, European Politics and Society or New Media & Society.
