Israel Doncel is an Associate Professor at Universidad Carlos III de Madrid. He has served as Head of Communications at Centro Sefarad-Israel and as Press Officer at Casa de América, both public diplomacy institutions under the Spanish Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation. His main field of expertise is institutional communication and public diplomacy.

He holds a PhD in Media Research, with a dissertation titled “La diplomacia pública interna como ejercicio de comunicación institucional. Un análisis del caso español.”

Doncel is the author of Comunicación corporativa en la era de la globalización (UNIR, 2010) and co-author of Emma Lazarus a los pies de la libertad (Huso, 2022). He has published several articles on public diplomacy and communication, including “Domestic public diplomacy as a communications strategy. Analysis of the Spanish case,” published in Political Research Exchange (2025). He also contributed to the collective volume La desinformación en la UE en tiempos de la COVID-19 (Tirant lo Blanch, 2021).

In 2022, he took part in the International Visitor Leadership Program (IVLP) organized by the U.S. Department of State under the theme “Countering Holocaust Distortion and Denial: The Role of New and Traditional Media.”
