Gilles Brachotte

Second European Conference on Disinformation and Fact-Checking | Conference speaker

Gilles Brachotte is a Professor of Information and Communication Sciences at Université Bourgogne Europe. Initially a certified professor in Electrical Engineering, specialized in computer science and telematics, he has focused since 2011 on studying the circulation of information on social media platforms, particularly X, in areas such as politics, health, and food. His research combines quantitative and qualitative approaches within an inter- and multidisciplinary framework.
He leads the Cocktail project (> €1.1 million, funded by I-SITE BFC, FEDER, Bpifrance, the Dijon Metropole, and the ANR via the recovery plan), which aims to create a real-time observatory of trends, singularities, and weak signals circulating in food-related discourse on X. He is also the scientific lead of the Beelzebot project (€416k, ANR 2023 awardee), dedicated to detecting strategies of information manipulation by bot armies within the Francophone X sphere.
He co-leads the "Socio-ecological transition, public spaces and territories" research strand at the CIMEOS laboratory (UR 4177) and co-coordinates the TransLation axis at the MSH of Dijon. His administrative experience (former Vice-President of the University of Burgundy, currently Director of Studies for the BUT3 MMI program) provides him with solid expertise in team and project management.
