Carlos Maciá Barber holds a PhD in Journalism, and he is an Associate Professor in the Department of Communication at the Carlos III University of Madrid (UC3M). Her lines of research have a distinctly interdisciplinary view: news reporting (in-depth report, chronicle, photojournalism), media ethics (gender, minors, health) and public understanding of science (history, archaeology). He was a Principal Researcher of the projects “Ethics and informative excellence: implementation and consolidation of ethical practices in the journalistic organizations” (CSO2010-15575/COMU), and “Ethics and informative excellence and journalistic deontology facing the expectations of citizens in Madrid” (SEJ2006-05631-C05-03/SOCI), from the Spanish National R&D&I Plans of the Ministry of Science and Innovation (2008-2011) and the Ministry of Education and Science (2004-2007). He is currently responsible for the Strategic Research Action “Journalism, ethics and fundamental rights” (2024-2030). On the scientific side, he is a member of the Julio Caro Baroja Institute of Historiography (UC3M) and the Spanish Association of Communication Researchers (AE-IC). He is a reviewer of the research and development projects around Social Sciences for the National Agency for Evaluation and Prospective (Spain), the National Agency for Research and Innovation (Uruguay) and the Narodowe Centrum Nauki (Poland). In the academic field, he has been Vice Dean of the Degree in Journalism and the Double Degree in Journalism-Humanities (2013-2023) at the Faculty of Humanities, Communication and Documentation (UC3M), and deputy director of the Department of Communication (Journalism and Research) (2012-2018). He has been a reviewer for the National Agency for Quality Assessment and Accreditation (ANECA) and the Andalusian Knowledge Agency (AAC).
