Alfonso de Paz

Second European Conference on Disinformation and Fact-Checking | Conference speaker

Alfonso de Paz is a computer engineer from the Autonomous University of Madrid (UAM) who has built his career at Spain’s National Research Council (CSIC) in web mining and information-retrieval (IR) techniques. At CSIC, he develops large-scale systems to extract, process, and monitor high-volume data sources, and applies information-retrieval and NLP methods, together with Cyber Threat Intelligence (CTI) practices, to detect, analyze, and counter coordinated campaigns.

After that, he decided to pursue a PhD to apply these capabilities to the study of social networks, focusing on how they shape political discourse and enable the spread of misinformation. His work centers on practical, reproducible NLP pipelines and measurement-driven analysis aimed at building evidence-based defenses against information manipulation.
