The “III Jornadas Internacionales Periodismo en Crisis, Emergencias y Desastres” brought together 123 participants from six countries across Europe and South America for an international dialogue on journalism’s role in times of crisis. The event featured 15 experts from a wide range of fields—including journalism, humanitarian work, medical science, conflict management, fact-checking, and academia—who explored how different sectors contribute to communicating and managing crises and the critical role of journalists in crises.
Discussions addressed the media’s responsibility in covering health emergencies, climate disasters, and political conflicts, as well as the growing challenge of misinformation. Participants also took part in interactive workshops designed to build practical skills in crisis reporting and digital fact-checking, fostering collaboration across disciplines.
The conference was supported by Asisa, IECAH (Instituto de Estudios sobre Conflictos y Acción Humanitaria), the University of Oviedo, Federación de Asociaciones de Periodistas de España, and Reporters Without Borders Spain, reaffirming the event’s commitment to advancing cross-sector approaches to crisis communication.
